Picking 4

Animated Picking 4 tab by ActionTab on guitar. So easy you'll be playing in minutes.

This is the 4th exercise from the Core Skills section on Picking.

Now that your strumming hand is a bit better at picking an open string, let's add in your other hand. To keep things simple, let's apply what you've learned so far to your first fretted note.

We'll keep it as simple as possible, and just do 8 downstrokes on the G note. Notice that in the ActionTab a red dot appears on the Low E string at the 3rd fret? Click Here and the ActionTab will jump to to the place we are talking about. That is the G note, and the red dot means hold that note with your 1st finger.

If you are new to guitar and aren't sure about how to fret notes using your fingers, you should watch the video on holding guitar properly. If you are getting fretbuzz or the note sounds 'dead' then you might not be holding the note properly with your fretboard hand as you pick it. Again, if this is happening, you may need to ensure that your fretboard fingers are doing the right thing, so watch that video!

For this exercise you need to be able to hold the G note and maintain a constant downstroke picking rhythm. Loop the ActionTab and play along with it. Keep picking the G note with downstrokes until you have got it right, then move on to the next exercise.
