Strumming 3

Animated Strumming 3 tab by ActionTab on guitar. So easy you'll be playing in minutes.

This exercise is from the Core Skills Strumming section.

Let's try a new chord, and a new rhythm. Here we strum a G major chord and apply a different rhythm. d-dud-d (repeat). Here there is only one upstroke. Notice the single upstroke alters the rhythm significantly.

Downstrum - gap - Downstrum - Upstrum - Downstrum - gap - Downstrum - gap (repeat)

Imagine that each 'gap' was an upstrum - then you'd be 'alternate strumming' (just constant down / up / down / up strums). Strumming can be a little similar to alternate picking in that you can apply a constant down / up stroke rhythm of strumming across the strings. But by 'skipping' certain strokes (as we do in this exercise), or speeding / slowing the pace of strums there are an immense range of possible rhythms to explore. Throw some extra chords into the mix, and you've got yourself a song!

Once you can strum your way through this exercise let's move on to strumming chords that do not use all 6 strings.
