Picking 5

Animated Picking 5 tab by ActionTab on guitar. So easy you'll be playing in minutes.

This is the 5th Exercise from the Core Skills Section on Picking.

For this exercise we hold the same G note as the previous ActionTab, but this time we play it using only upstrokes instead of downstrokes. Loop the ActionTab and play along with it. Keep picking the G note with upstrokes until you have got it right, then move on to the next exercise.

Remember, if you are getting fretbuzz or the note sounds 'dead' then you might not be holding the note properly. Again, if this is happening, you may need to ensure that your fretboard fingers are doing the right thing, so watch the video!

Also remember to make sure that only your pick is striking the string. If your thumb or anything else is making contact with the string while you play it (for example, long hair flopping onto the strings), it can deaden the note and affect the sound. This may seem obvious, but it's very common for people to be so focused on their fingers that they forget things like shirt sleeves, loose guitar straps, long hair etc which can interfere with the strings.
