Palm Muting 1

Animated Palm Muting 1 tab by ActionTab on guitar. So easy you'll be playing in minutes.

This exercise is from the Core Skills section on Palm Muting.

This exercise will help you concentrate solely on your strumming hand. Here we pick/palm mute only the Low E string with downstrokes. You will not need your fretboard hand for this exercise.

Notice in the ActionTab that black pick strokes appear. Normal strikes are shown by white dots with a black arrow inside to indicate the direction of the stroke. With Palm muting black dots are used instead, with white arrows inside to show you the direction of the pickstroke.

Loop the ActionTab and play along with it, when you can palm mute in time with it, move on to the next exercise.

If you have problems with palm muting, remember to use the edge of the heel of your palm and rest it on the lowest 3 or 4 strings. Don't push hard against the string with your palm. Just rest it against the strings enough to mute them, but with enough freedom to manoeuvre your pick across the strings you need to play. Watch the video in the introduction for close-ups and keep at it!
