Double Drop D Example 1

Animated Double Drop D Example 1 tab by ActionTab on guitar. So easy you'll be playing in minutes.

This tune is from the Theory Section where we are exploring alternate tunings.

Double Drop D tuning is the same as the Drop D tuning, except that the high E string is also 'dropped' 2 frets to D. For this tuning the open strings are: Low D : A : D : G : B : D. This is a further option for those guitarists wishing to make the most of any songs based around open D chords.

To tune from standard tuning to double drop D just pick your middle D string and lower your high and low E strings until they match.

Double Drop D tuning gravitates the tonal centre of your music further towards the key of D. Here we play the exact same tune as before (for Drop D), except this time using Double Drop D tuning. Notice this gives us more ominous music - which we elaborate on by adding some choral backing.

Remember - we are using Thumb muting here!

All alternate tunings give you interesting musical options and are worth experimenting with.
