Dorian - Jazz Backing

Animated Dorian - Jazz Backing tab by ActionTab on guitar. So easy you'll be playing in minutes.

This is from the Jamzone where we are looking at the Dorian Mode, and chords that strongly support this mode in the Key of C major. We strongly advise reading the associated article.

We are using a Dm7 - Em7 - Dm7 - G7 chord progression. Use thumb-muting to omit the lowest 2 strings if you wish.

We are keeping it very simple. There's just 1 chord strum per bar, and the easiest version of each chord is played. We use modern beats and groove in a modern style (similar to Paul Hardcastle).

This progression will be very friendly to the D Dorian scale we have been focusing on in the previous Jazz 2-5-1 articles. Use it for looping and soloing over. Also, you can download an mp3 of a longer backing track (see main article). This will also be useful for your experimentation with this scale.

For an example of a Jazz-Blues Style solo, using the D Dorian scale at fret 10, check out the next article.
