Dancing in the Moonlight

Animated Dancing in the Moonlight tab by Thin Lizzy on guitar. So easy you'll be playing in minutes.

Dancing in the moonlight has a catchy bassline (which we transcribe for guitar here), and the rest of the song follows straightforward chord progressions in the key of G major. There are only 3 main parts to learn for the main rhythm guitar. Here's the breakdown:

Bassline intro - Phil Lynott's bassline starts the song, but we're going to play it on guitar here too. It's played later by guitar in the song anyway, so why not.

Verse - Most of the song (including the chorus) involves around a simple 4 chord progression. Let's take one section of the verse to see these 4 chords:

Em7 - D major - C major - G major (repeat)

Occasionally there is a little high lick thrown in like this.

Chorus - The chorus is really just a variation of the main verse chords. Here's the progression:

Em7 - D major - C major - G major Then add these 2 bridging chords: B5 - D5 (which can also be played this way: B5 - D)

For the main rhythm guitar, everything else in the song is just a repeat of these 3 main song parts.
