CAGED - C major scales

Animated CAGED - C major scales tab by ActionTab on guitar. So easy you'll be playing in minutes.

This exercise is from the Theory Section on the CAGED system.

Here is the basic C Major scale played in open position (the lowest possible position on the fretboard), then at the octave (12th fret) position.

Both scales span 1 octave each (i.e. from C through to the next highest C).

In open position first play the C major chord. Followed by the C Major Scale:

C - D - E - F - G - A - B - C

Then up at the 12th fret play the higher C major chord. Followed by that C Major Scale:

C - D - E - F - G - A - B - C

Notice that both C chords / scales are the same, except that the first finger is used to replace the open notes for the second chord / scale.

Practice both scales until you are very familiar with them. Get faster and more regular with them. Use different methods to practice them, i.e. Ascend and descend through the notes. When ready, move to the next CAGED scale: A Major.
