Bends 7

Animated Bends 7 tab by ActionTab on guitar. So easy you'll be playing in minutes.

This exercise is from the Core Skills exercises on string Bends.

Here we look at bending up to target notes. This is a good exercise, as it will help train your ear for bending to the correct pitch. Also, it will get those fingers strong enough to handle those big rock bends. Just beware that with the 3-fret bends your guitar strings may snap! If this looks like it's going to be a big problem - just do the 2-fret bends (full bends).

First we work along the G string. All the bends along this string will be at fret 9. This note is E, however we are bending up to other notes - first 1 fret higher, then 2 frets higher, then 3 frets higher. These are our 3 target notes.

Notice that after each of these notes, we return to E (fret 9), and then bend up to each target note:

E to F - bend up by 1 fret
E to F# - bend up by 2 frets
E to G - bend up by 3 frets

Next we bend along the D string, again doing 1, 2 and 3 fret bends. This time we just start out by playing the target note (always D), and then moving down by 1, 2 or 3 frets and bending up to the target note. Notice that we bend the other direction this time. You can bend either way, but when doing 3 fret bends you need to bear in mind the edge of the fretboard. If you try doing an upwards 3 fret bend on the low A string, you'll end up off the fretboard! So, bend direction is important!

C# to D - bend up by 1 fret
C to D - bend up by 2 frets
B to D - bend up by 3 frets

Try bending to your own target notes and remember to develop that ear for pitch!
